e-Waste Issues

The Electronic waste(e-Waste) is one of the most hazardous pollution which affect our society and the environment. This was known to very few, I too came to know about this a few weeks back.

Once I went as volunteer to clean the waste around the Chennai. During cleaning the waste I saw many e-Waste there which contaminate the water , air and the soil.

So I asked an environmentalist about the e-Waste and   impact on the society. The information he told shocked me a lot. The information he told was, the e-Waste is made up of very costly and very poisonous he metal which can affect the environment and ecosystem.

He says the heavy metal in the electronic items are very rare metal and very dangerous to the society. When electronics containing heavy metals such as lead, barium, mercury, lithium etc., contaminate the ground water, lakes, ponds, and rivers. Local communities often depend on these bodies of water and the groundwater. Apart from this, these chemicals resulting in the death of some of the plants and animals that exist in the water. These heavy metal are mostly used and found in mobile phone and computer batteries.  He said that most of the landfills are filled by the e-Waste. This shocked me a lot.

But he told how to reduce the e-Waste too. Now a days most of them have two phones, tablets, iPads, MP3 player, Laptop,Computer more and more. He said, we can avoid these things as possible.

Small children are now a days using the mobiles so they are not going out to play with their friends, due to that their physical wellness is decreased and over usage of mobiles and other electronic items decreases their meal strength too, so parents should control them and they should have the habit of playing outdoor.

There are only seven e-Waste recycling centers in Tamilnadu.

These are the one of the main social issues which we failed to notice so there is excess of growth of the e-Waste. We socialist should put effort to decrease and control the e-Waste.
